About

Hans Zeiger is the son, grandson, and great grandson of Puyallup teachers. The Zeiger family moved to the South Hill in 1952. Hans grew up hiking in the Cascades, volunteering on political campaigns, and participating in student leadership and cross country at Puyallup High School.

Today, Hans is living his dream as a professional writer and the author of two books about young Americans. Elected president of his senior class at Hillsdale College, he majored in American Studies and he was recognized by Newsweek’s Current magazine in 2005 as one of “15 College Students You Haven’t Heard of … But Will.” Hans then earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Pepperdine University.

Hans works as a senior fellow for a non-profit organization that promotes the U.S. Constitution. His articles have appeared in publications like the Seattle Times, San Francisco Chronicle, Philadelphia Inquirer, and Baltimore Sun. He profiled the South Hill Boy Scout troop that has been home to three generations of Zeigers for a recent cover story in American Legion magazine.

Hans’s civic and volunteer activities include membership on the Puyallup/Sumner Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, service as an Assistant Scoutmaster in Puyallup’s Boy Scout Troop 174 since 2003, and participation on the Puyallup Veteran’s Memorial Dedication Committee in 2002. He profiled hometown heroes as the “Generous People” columnist in the Puyallup Herald in 2008 and 2009. Hans has volunteered with local history initiatives for the Ezra Meeker Historical Society and the Puyallup Fair Foundation. He is a member of the South Hill Historical Society, Fife Historical Society, and the Cascade Land Conservancy.
